No World System Thursday, December 31, 2009 A path has been cleared for the government to publicly roll out dangerous full-body scanners after the failed terrorist attempt on flight 253. Welcome to Orwell’s World 2010 – John Pilger
John Pilger www.johnpilger.com Thurs day, Dec 31st, 2009 In Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell described a superstate called Oceania, whose language of war inverted lies that “passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past’, ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past’.” Barack Obama is the leader of a contemporary Oceania. In two speeches at the close of the decade, the Nobel Peace Prize winner affirmed that peace was no longer peace, but rather a permanent war that “extends well beyond Afghanistan and Pakistan” to “disorderly regions and diffuse enemies”.

Snowstorm squelches climate change protest
Judy Fahys The Salt Lake Tribune Thursday, Dec 31st, 2009 A downtown protest of the climate change talks in Copenhagen became a victim of Wednesday’s snowstorm. “Not many people showed up because of the blizzard conditions,” said organizer Clea Major, an international studies student at the University of Utah. It didn’t take long for the six friends to pack up a bullhorn and posters they’d planned to use for their “scream-in,” an outlet for their frustration about the failure of the Copenhagen climate talks earlier this month to curb the pollution blamed for climate change.

Scripting the ‘fear of flying’
Jerry Mazza Online Journal Thursday, Dec 31st, 2009 No, I’m not talking about making a movie of Erica Jong’s best-selling novel, Fear of Flying , which was scripted and shot by Columbia and flopped big time. It flopped in spite of her big bold successful book about a woman shrink/poet, liberating herself from her husband, her fears, neuroses and sexual inhibitions to get as big a sexual bang for her buck out of life as Tiger Woods, alpha male. No, the “fear of flying” script I’m talking about is being played out in the movie of life, starring Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, who needs to shorten that moniker for the marquee, and to make room for its cast of thousands if not millions.
